Peak Ales, the Peak District-based brewery, was chosen by the owners of The Cupola – a new heritage centre, licensed kitchen and gift ship – to produce their own label beer and gin.
Colin and Alison Hall, who recently launched The Cupola, built in their home Peak District village of Stoney Middleton, are keen to support local businesses and source as many products from across the National Park as they can.
Working closely with Colin and Alison, the distillers at Peak Ales developed The Cupola Lime & Ginger London Dry Gin, a gin unique to The Cupola.
The Cupola Gold is Peak Ales’ award-winning Chatsworth Gold, produced with a personalised label incorporating The Cupola’s branding.
Peak Ales will continue to work with Alison and Colin, who are planning to expand their range of gin, with new products planned for the spring and summer.
Rob and Debra Evans, the owners of Peak Ales, brewed their first batch of beer In 2005 in a former barn on the Chatsworth Estate. During the last 19 years, the company has continued to grow and develop, and now operates from purpose-designed brewing and distilling facilities in Ashford-in-the-Water, which is also in the Peak Park.
In Stoney Middleton, a short drive from the brewery, The Cupola was built on the site of a former lead smelting operation, which was in use in the 18th century, known locally as the Lord’s Cupola. It is also the site where Colin’s family once lived.
Along with locally produced beer and gin, the company sources ingredients for the kitchen from local suppliers and the gift shop includes honey, candles, essential oils, beauty products and books from local producers and authors.
With increasing pressures to reduce food miles and emissions, this local partnership demonstrates just how businesses can work together for the benefit their respective operations and the local economy.
