Gen-Z eschews alcohol

A recent survey conducted by Moonpig found that Gen-Z* prefers alcohol-free meet-ups with friends. The survey, which polled over 2,000 people, found that over one in five younger Brits (22%) are significantly more likely to socialise in settings that don’t involve alcohol, several times a week.

These findings are in stark contrast to the one in eight (12%) of the UK population, aged over 65, who socialise with friends without alcohol; the survey also found that only one in 50 (2%) of 25-to-34-year-olds socialise without alcohol.

Additional research published by Beverage Daily revealed that the no/low alcohol category is forecast to grow at a volume CAGR of 6% between 2023 and 2027 as UK consumers switch to lower alcohol options more frequently, which reinforces the findings from MoonPig.

As we have reported previously, the low/no alcohol sector continues to expand, which has been boosted in part due to the quality of alcohol-free beers and lagers, wines and spirits.

Having samples and reviewed alcohol-free beverages, it is the breweries that are topping the charts for being able to match the taste and flavour profiles of traditional lagers, beers and ales.

Alcohol-free wines and spirits are an option for those wanting to reduce their alcohol consumption, but from our experience there is still some way to go before they start to complete head-on with fermented wines and distilled spirits.
