A year on from reviewing the gin produced by Tumbledown Distillery, the most southerly distillery on the planet, we’re delighted to announce that they won silver at The Gin Awards 2026.

The winner of the prestigious award was Tumbledown Gin, which is produced in micro-batches, using foraged local botanicals, harvested by hand from the wild, untamed landscape of the Falkland Islands.
Distillery founder Taff Davies, a Falklands veteran and former Royal Marine, started distilling in his garage as a hobby. This has since grown into a labour of love and he is now producing some of the rarest and most sought-after spirits on earth.
Each small-batch distillation (often as little as 70 litres at a time) captures the essence of the islands, using pure island water, drawn from Mount Tumbledown, and botanicals foraged in the wilds of the Falklands, including Scurvy Grass.
The silver award reinforces the distillery’s proposition that Tumbledown Gin is: ‘a gin like no other’, which has already led to a significant increase in both press and trade enquiries.
When we sampled the gin, we all agreed that this was an excellent gin — very smooth, with an amazing mouthfeel and a pepperiness that delivered a subtle kick of heat, but which was never unpleasant.
The botanicals were very much evident, including the essential juniper, which have been perfectly balanced, and the finish reinforced the smoothness and quality of what was a memorable spirit.
As well as being able to buy this small batch, premium gin securely online, on Saturday 8 August, Tumbledown Gin will be the focus of a trade open day at The Spirit Room by Caviste, our partner retailer based at Hook in Hampshire. During the event buyers will be able to meet the producer, as well as sampling and placing orders for this delightful gin.

Commenting on their award-winning gin, co-director John Hellowell said: “We aren’t trying to compete with supermarket gin; this is a product of isolation, resilience and craftsmanship – something that could only be made in the Falklands.”
