Refreshingly good

Netherlands-based Santani Organics, a company founded by Suzanne Van Roosbroeck and Tess van Zwol, produces a range of organic, sugar free soft drinks, which contain at least 40% fruit.

We were recently sent two varieties, Red Fruits and Lemon, which are sold in minimally designed, but stylish 330ml can that were colour-coded to the variety.

Our only complaint with the cans was that the accent colour for the Lemon variety was lime green and the Red Fruits flavour was pastel pink.

A vivid lemony yellow would have better related to the anticipated flavour and a deep red accent colour would have worked better with the cans than contained delicious flavours derived from the cranberries and elderberries.

Packaging aside, how did they taste?

The Lemon was zesty with the expected acidic lemon kick, subtly balanced with ginger and apple. The absence of sugar or any artificial sweeteners was obvious, in a good way, and the overall taste can only be described as clean, light and refreshing.

The Red Fruits variety was equally satisfying. The hearty flavour profile was delivered by cranberries and elderberries, as stated, but also included lemon, apple and lavender.

Both varieties were both sampled chilled from the fridge, but to create a little more theatre in the glass you could add ice and a slice of lemon to the Lemon flavour, and ice with cranberries for the Red Fruits variety.

With the exception of the slight mis-match of accent colours and flavours, we thoroughly enjoyed these soft drinks and would expect that Santani Organics to thrive in the UK and Europe beyond, given the increasing demand for healthy drinks.
