Out of this world

We were recently sent two new beers from award-winning London-based Orbit Beers: Lentebock Spring Lager and Audio Golden Ale.

As explained on Orbit Beers’ website: “Lentebock is one of Europe’s quieter beer styles, considering its vibrant character. A strong Dutch-style lager, traditionally brewed to celebrate the changing of seasons.”

At 6.4% ABV, Lentebock, which we sampled chilled, was smooth and refreshing; the high ABV gives depth of flavour, but is balanced by a subtle sweet maltiness.

Orbit’s use of Bobek hops – a Slovenian aroma hop known for their delicate, floral and pine notes – deliver a pleasing aroma and moderate bitterness.

Tettnanger hops are used to create European-style lagers and pilsners; as a dual-use hop – for both bittering and aroma – Tettnanger hops are renowned for their floral, spicy and herbal aromas, and also contribute a subtle bitterness to the beer.

We were all impressed with Lentebock, which has all the right ingredients to become an award-winning beer.

We were equally impressed with Audio Golden Ale (4.5% ABV), which Orbit Beers produced in conjunction with their friends at Audio Gold, an independent north London music shop, which stocks music from every decade and they also produce and repair hi-fi systems.

Intentionally brewed with First Gold hops – for a sweet orangey citrus aroma and subtle spice notes – blended with Brewers Gold hops (a bittering hop commonly used only to bitter the beer during brewing, but also impart blackcurrant and spicy notes).

Audio Golden Ale’s maltiness is derived from Golden Promise, Caramel Pils and Oat Malt, which together with the chosen hop varieties, delivered an extremely smooth and easy drinking, fully rounded ale.

Established in the heart of south London in 2014, Orbit Beers has earned a reputation for producing a fine range of contemporary beers that are deeply rooted in European brewing traditions, and we eagerly anticipate their next creation.
