Molly Ollys – the Warwick-based charity dedicated to supporting children with life-threatening illnesses and their families – recently teamed up with Shakespeare Distillery to create a small batch craft gin.
Launched in March, Molly Ollys Pink Gin is a premium, juniper-led gin (40% ABV), which delivers notes of raspberries, blackberries and Mediterranean citrus.
It is available in 50cl bottles and is supplied with a Molly Ollys gift label.
To create the subtle pink hue, raspberries are steeped in the gin, which is bottled after about a month – once the desired colour has been achieved.
We were delighted when we received a bottle to sample and were extremely impressed by this pink gin, which we tasted neat and over ice, although we agreed that this would work very well served (as suggested by the distillery) with a sparkling wine and a measure of raspberry syrup to create an indulgent gin fizz.
The gin was very smooth, with the complex flavour profile providing a taste sensation; the citrus and red berry notes coming to the fore, but never overpowering, balanced perfectly with the one essential botanical: juniper.
