Japanese Happy Meal

London-based food writer, Nyasha Oliver, heads to the heart of London’s West End to sample some of the finest drinks from the East.

At Archive & Myth, the quintessential hidden bar within London’s Hippodrome Casino, recently launched the “Japanese Happy Meal” set.

In collaboration with Kay Sake and Sapporo UK, the beverage set offers three expertly crafted drinks: Kay Sake, Sapporo Lager and a Japanese Slipper, created by the founder of Archive & Myth, and award-winning bartender, Jack Sotti.

For Sotti: “The Japanese Happy Meal was just waiting to happen; some of the best beers, sakes and spirits come out of Japan, so it was inevitable.”

The Japanese Slipper cocktail, described by Sotti as: “a fun and kitsch twist on the iconic midori-laced Japanese slipper.”

Made with a mix of Suntori Toki Whisky (43% ABV), sake, yuzushu liqueur, lemongrass and lime, the cocktail delivers a sweet, yet zesty punch to what is a very satisfying drink.

In addition, it comes with a pickle platter comprising ginger, ume, habanero, pickled chilli pepper, white strawberry, onion, cranberry and capers.

Next is the inclusion of Sapporo’s ice cold lager, which delivers a refined, chilled taste with the Kay Sake sipper being served with a masu box, which has the smooth flavour of Junmai Daiginjo that complements the other two.

Adam Wyartt, senior brand manager of Kingfisher Drinks, who attended the launch said: “We were so excited about Jack bringing the Japanese Happy Meal to life, and in one of London’s coolest venues, Sapporo simply had to get involved!”

“We love working with people who share our passion for delicious drinks and great times, so along with Kay Sake this was absolutely on point for a super-premium Japanese lager like Sapporo.”

The Japanese Happy Meal has been available at Archive & Myth since 4 February for £17, with individual prices ranging from £8-£12.

Booking is highly recommended.
