Plan Bee is a new 4.8% ABV honey-infused pale ale, which was launched to coincide with World Bee Day (20 May) – the result of a partnership between Derbyshire-based Buxton Brewery and The World Bee Project.
This new beer combines all-British ingredients and honey to create a perfectly balanced pale ale that supports crucial pollinator conservation efforts.
Commenting on the launch of Plan Bee, Dom Metcalfe, Buxton Brewery’s MD, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with The World Bee Project on this collaboration beer.
“Creating this beer was a delicate balancing act; we wanted the honey character to shine through without overwhelming the palate, so we carefully adjusted the bitterness to complement the natural sweetness.
“It is imperative that we use our combined reach to help educate and inform people that bees underpin our entire ecosystem and without them and their pollinating properties we wouldn’t be able to grow produce to feed ourselves or even make beer.”
Buxton Brewery will donate a percentage of the proceeds from the sales of Plan Bee to The World Bee Project, which will support their pioneering work, harnessing the power of AI and sensor technology to monitor bee populations vital to help develop conservation strategies.
Sabiha Malik, founder of The World Bee Project, is delighted to be working with Buxton Brewery: “When consumers enjoy Buxton Brewery’s new Plan Bee pale ale, they’re not just tasting a delicious beer, they’re participating in a larger movement to help protect bees, biodiversity, and food security.
“Our lives are more connected to bees than most of us realise; there are over 20,000 bee species and over 80% of our food comes from plants that rely on pollinators.
The honey bee, an excellent pollinator, is the only species that makes honey and has been known to people worldwide for thousands of years.”
Key to the success of the collaboration between Buxton Brewery and The World Bee Project is sales of Plan Bee, and the sales of the new pale ale depend on how it tastes.
Having sampled Plan Bee we’re delighted to report that this is a first class beer and has all the right ingredients to become a popular beer, especially during the summer months when a refreshing cool beer is the perfect choice when relaxing with friends and family.
Plan Bee is light gold in colour and the flavour profile imparts subtle hints of honey, which is perfectly balanced with a pleasing bitterness and a satisfying malty finish.
Here at Hand Crafted Drinks Magazine we applaud Buxton Brewery’s commitment to helping to boost the UK’s bee population, which is to be celebrated and something that we will raise a glass to, provided that it’s Plan Bee, of course!
