Originally created exclusively for Soho House, Lady A was hand-crafted at Château La Coste, in the heart of Provence. The branding incorporates Damien Hirst’s iconic butterfly motif to symbolise the “social butterfly” and the dynamic community that has shaped Soho House to become the iconic global brand it is today.
Lady A Red is one of Soho House’s favourite red wines, designed to offer a fresher, lighter take on red wine, enhancing its vibrant red fruit notes, subtle spice and crisp finish for an effortlessly refreshing drink during warmer months.
Made from grenache, syrah, carignan and merlot grapes, Lady A Red is smooth, fruit-forward and beautifully rounded, to be enjoyed straight from the fridge or ice bucket on sunny afternoons and long summer evenings.
We were sent a case of Lady A, which we very much enjoyed sampling. I would, of course, always chill rosé before drinking, but chilled red? I wasn’t immediately convinced.
Having tasted the wine both from the fridge and at room temperature, it is clear that the vintners at La Coste really know their onions. We were ultimately very impressed.
My concern was that in chilling the wine that you might lose some of the red berry depth, but when sampled from the fridge the wine was refreshing, effortlessly drinkable and beautifully balanced, with the fruitiness and subtle spices notes coming through.
The mouthfeel was engaging and the finish reinforced the subtle complexities of the four grape varieties.
We also tried the wine at room temperature, which delivered a more velvety, smoother mouthfeel; the chorus of red berries came to the fore, but at room temperature the experience was that slightly deeper red fruit notes came to the fore, perhaps reminiscent of a fresh Beaujolais.
Although Lady A is designed to be enjoyed chilled through the warmer summer months, this is a wine I could enjoy well into the autumn, served at room temperature, before returning to heartier, full-bodied reds (for me, hearty wines from Bordeaux) to see me through the winter.
Lady A is without a doubt a triumph and we can see exactly why it is such a popular wine with the discerning clientele of Soho House.
