Isle of Harris Gin has been awarded a Masters award at The Global Spirits Masters and a Silver award at the International Wine and Spirits Competition.
Commenting on the awards, Simon Erlanger, Isle of Harris Distillery’s Managing Director, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have secured a Masters Award at The Global Spirits Masters Awards, the highest accolade possible in the world’s most highly regarded series of spirits blind-tasting competition.
“Furthermore, we are equally as excited to have picked up a much-coveted Silver Award at the International Wine and Spirits Competition, the world’s largest and arguably most influential spirits awards. It is another wonderful testament to our local distillers and the team as a whole, and further confirmation that we are truly leading the way when it comes to Scottish spirit quality. After winning Gold at the World Gin Awards earlier this year, this makes a hat-trick of quality accolades for our gin in 2021.”
The distillery’s achievements in 2021 include:
- 2021 World Gin Awards – Gold
- 2021 The Global Spirit Masters – Masters Award
- 2021 International Wine and Spirits Competition – Silver
Based on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides, the distillery was the vision of Anderson ‘Burr’ Bakewell, a man who has been connected to the island for many years. He wanted to create something that would provide employment for generations to come by sharing this special place with the world. It is both a place and an idea for bringing people together, to share the special spirit of Harris and create a sense of belonging wherever you are from.
The Isle of Harris Distillery’s main purpose is to create jobs, support the fragile local economy and address issues surrounding population decline in the Outer Hebrides. Five local distillers and two young apprentice distillers, trained from scratch in their craft, make a single malt whisky and an Outer Hebridean gin.
Today, a team of over 30 full time staff help create the beautiful spirits and welcome visitors from all over the world. The distillery now provides secure employment and gives people a reason to remain in Harris to live and work.
