Sometimes you can have too much choice, which actually impedes the decision-making process. Faced with a menu of just half a dozen mains and you’ll be far quicker to make your choice than if you have 20 dishes to consider.
You can find yourself in the same situation when buying beers, especially if you’re in a large supermarket where there is a wide range of British, European and world beers.
I have spent too long considering the exotic and unfamiliar beers, only to go to what I know, but in doing so I am missing out on exceptional beers that I would undoubtedly enjoy.
But, as much as the supermarkets offer a wide choice they don’t tend to sell small-batch, artisan and craft beers. So, if you want to experience new beers from around the globe what do you do?
Step forward Beer Dad….
Beer Dad was established in 2021 by Jamie Percival who wanted to create a modern, online beer boutique that sources high quality beers from around the world, which are curated to match various dad personalities with a unique combination comprising ales, stouts and lagers.
In launching Beer Dad, Jamie – a beer judge, beer sommelier and member of the British Guild of Beer Writers – wanted his offer to go beyond the stereotypical “beers for him” boxes. Beer Dad is the result of extensive research that has uncovered some of the finest artisan and craft beers around.
Jamie’s decision to launch Beer Dad, which coincided with the birth of this first child, was based firmly on the projected growth for online sales of alcohol, the ever-growing popularity of craft beer and an increasingly discerning customer base looking for both personalisation and a sustainable approach.
According to IBISWorld 2022, the UK beer market is valued at over £16bn, which is set to increase by around 15% by 2027; consumers aged 26-40 make up the greatest share of revenue at 37.5%, followed closely by consumers between the ages of 41 and 60.
Jamie also wanted to make the online shopping process as easy as possible, with no shipping costs, and an option to create an account or simply check-out as a guest. I can confirm that the online shopping experience is very straightforward and the email confirmations arrive very quickly once an order has been placed, leaving only the anticipation of a knock at the door when the beers arrive.
Beer Dad sends out their hand-picked beers in sustainable packaging sourced from Freckl, which uses non-toxic inks printed onto 100% recyclable and compostable cardboard and paper, printed in the UK.
They also offer a range branded clothing, which is from Continental Clothing who are leaders in Fair Trade and responsibly sourced, sustainable clothing.
Finally, 1% of all Beer Dad sales (not profit) goes to Great Ormond Street Hospital to make sure they’re doing their part to support those children and parents going through the toughest of times.
